How to Plant a Tree

Choosing a location for your tree
The first thing you need to do before you plant a tree you need to contact your local utilities company. Also you need to make sure you location is safe to plant a tree because a power line could damage a tree. If you do plant a tree under a power line make sure it is a tree that does not naturally grow to be tall. Also you need to ask your local nursery to see what kind of soil this tree grows best in. You also need to find out if the tree grows best in shade or sunlight.
Planting Container Trees
When you plant a tree that is in a container, the hole should be bigger. After you have the hole dug you need to make sure the root ball rest on the base of the hole. Also you need to make sure the soil is loose enough for the tree to get water. After that you need to make sure any soil above the Root Flare is removed. One of the last things you need to do is mulch the plant. Be careful with your mulch because there is a difference. Make the mulch look like a donut around the tree not a volcano. Too much mulch can kill the tree.
Planting bare Rooted Trees
Planting bare rooted trees is different than planting container trees because there is no soil with the roots. When you buy a tree like this you need to plant it as soon as possible. The first thing you have to do is make a mound in the hole for the roots. When you start to fill in the hole you need to make sure the tree is properly seated so the trunk flare and the crown are clearly visible. Another observation to check for is the top of the roots are two inches from the ground.
How to plant Bald and Burlapped Trees
These trees are best if they are planted as soon as possible. When you dig the hole make sure the hole is small enough so the trees root flare is not under the soil, before you put the tree in make sure the there is not any twine in the trees roots. These kinds of trees need to be planted with combination of pet moss, manure, and topsoil.

Trees that should not be planted
All Ash, Austrian Pine, Satch Pine, Mimosa, Mountain Ash, White Birch, Silver Maple, Siberian Elm, American Elm, Bradford Pear, Black Locust, Black Cherry, mulberry, Tree of Heaven, Poplar (not Hybrid), Willow. You should not plant these trees because these trees have bugs and diseases that have been killing them.
